Just got a notification that I have to renew my GMRS license.

When I first applied for the license, whether they were going to require renewal was still up in the air. I guess that's no longer a 'question'.

The notice is long and involved. Instead of just pointing to the form and saying what the fee is, I have to wade through FCC hell to figure out what's required. It took them 2 pages to tell me that.

First, it's clear that our Government is littered with incompetence. Second, it's clear that they'll do anything to extract $ from the public.

If it weren't so sad, it would be funny.

The FCC site clearly is out to win or maintain an award for "worst website in the world". And for that they have some good competition.

Finally gave up and decided to just log into my ULS ID. "Down for Maintenance" hmmmm, probably more like "Down while we try to figure out this mess."

Once you get through their technology, they respond pretty quickly. Ben got a vanity ham callsign and it came really quickly.

I WANT MORE SUMMER!

Is it just me, or is it easier to get a ham license than a GMRS license?

Easier? Eh no. Cheaper? Probably.

Huh, I was actually astonished how much the FCC actually has their poo together. I applied for my new license and received an update in the mail within 2 days, the progress was updated online every few days and my approval took under a couple of weeks and cost just $13 for 10 years.
